CAMP and the Seattle School District

Seattle, Washington—March 1, 2011—Recently CAMP and one of its previous employees were mentioned in the news regarding the controversial Seattle School District audit and investigation. While it is true that CAMP previously had a program contract with the school district from June 2006 – August 2007 under a former Executive Director, during this time period the organization met all contractual obligations and any allegations that the program was conducted in an unethical manner are false.

When the former Executive Director left CAMP in September 2007, he continued to administer this contract on his own.  Any decisions that were made regarding the program after this time were not authorized by CAMP nor did the organization have any further involvement.

The Seattle School District, state auditor, and the King County Prosecutor have not contacted CAMP regarding their former program contract nor is CAMP under investigation.

“We are proud of the impact CAMP is making on the community today.  We’re deeply committed to ending the cycle of urban poverty by helping people of all cultures move towards stability and self-sufficiency.  This controversy in no way deters us from continuing to do great work and supporting those in need,” said Andrea Caupain, CAMP’s Executive Director since 2009.
