Andrea Caupain, Executive Director
For the past 15 years, Andrea has worked passionately to make a positive impact on issues of racial equality and poverty. As CAMP’s Executive Director since 2008, she has built a strong foundation for future growth, including opening new programs to address the fundamental causes of poverty. Prior to CAMP, she worked for four years for the Washington State Governor’s Commission on African-American Affairs, providing analysis and development on strategic legislative projects. Her work has also involved legislative casework for the Washington State House of Representatives. She has a Master’s Degree In Public Administration and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Evergreen State College. She brings a strong sense of leadership and vision to CAMP, an agency with a long legacy serving the community and providing lifeline services to the poor.
Leon Garnett, Program Director
Leon is responsible for oversight of all agency programs and setting and evaluating company policy. Under his leadership, he has expanded CAMP’s food and housing programs and managed the planning phase and pilot of the Financial Literacy Program. He joined CAMP as a program manager in 2004. Originally from Georgia, Leon earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from Morehouse College. He brings a team-oriented approach and develops data-driven strategies to ensure CAMP programs fulfill the mission of the agency and address the needs of the community.
Julie Antos, Fiscal Director
Julie advises and supports the Executive Director on all aspects of financial matters, including meeting grant compliance and performance accountability standards. Julie’s accounting career began in the early 1990’s at Seattle’s famous Herbfarm as the assistant to the Controller. After several years working in the for-profit world of accounting, she began working with the Seattle Hebrew Academy as the primary fiscal contact for the FEMA-funded $10 million renovation and gained valuable experience in private foundation and federal grant management. After six years of service at the school, she continued to work with various small businesses and non-profits as both a volunteer and consultant until she came to CAMP in 2008. She continues to be an active volunteer for the PEPS program in Seattle. She thoroughly enjoys working at an agency with the rich history of community service that CAMP has provided since 1964.
David Gestaut, Energy Assistance Program Manager
David manages the Energy Assistance Program, overseeing the LIHEAP and PSE HELP contracts and also supervises the EAP staff. He monitors contract compliance, budget development and provides support to the Fiscal Director for data analysis and reports. After graduating from Willamette University in 2006, David spent two years teaching in Japan. He joined CAMP in 2008 as a Client Services Respresentative. Currently, David is pursuing a Masters in Business Administration at the University of Washington and hopes to graduate in 2013. He truly enjoys working at a job where he can give back and make a difference in the community that he grew up in.
Nicholas Merkner, Accounting Manager
Nicholas handles the day-to-day financial operations at CAMP, from processing billing to reconciling expenses. He has also worked on managing finances for CAMP’s Energy Assistance LIHEAP Program. After graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Montana, Nicholas started his career in Public Accounting doing tax and audit work for high-profile clients. Today, he truly enjoys being a part of a non-profit where he feels like every day he is helping other people and providing the assistance they need.
