What is Youth Build?

Teaching eligible teens the skills needed to work successfully in the home construction industry while becoming future leaders of our community!

Youth Build offers students in-classroom and on-the-site experience, so they can complete a high school education, and gain the nessesary skills to enter the field of construction. The program offers training and skills-development courses in:

·         Industrial Safety

·         Flagger/Traffic Control

·         Introduction to Green Jobs

·         First Aid/CPR

·         Hand and Power Tools Operation and Safety

·         Basic Construction

·         Blueprint Reading

·         Trades Math

·         Physical Fitness

·         Employment Readiness

·         Basic Electrical Engineering

·         Trades Rotations Exploring Green Jobs

How We Do This!

CONSTRUCTION TRADES:

We supply the students all the necessary materials to effectively learn the construction trade. Students work directly with organizations like the Seattle Electricians Union and Habitat for Humanity, so they can gain real world skills and experience to move forward in their career.

EDUCATION ASSISTANCE:

With a trained staff, students learn in a classroom environment the knowledge necessary to obtain their GED and prepare for the ASSEST test for entrance into an apprenticeship program or community college.

LEADERSHIP TRAINING:

Youth Build creates an environment where students see that adults can be supportive, positive, consistent, and accountable for their actions. These are traits sometimes rarely experienced within their own family, and they can learn from them to become future leaders of their community.

LIFE SKILLS MANAGEMENT:

Youth Build trainees learn the fundamental skills in job searching, money and time management. So they can attain the right job, and most importantly, be able to hold on to that position.

"YouthBuild is an important project in our community because we help build homes for low income families. We give hope for the future."  ~Harry S.
